Chelsea Chen

Chelsea is a sophomore at Wellesley College studying Sociology and Economics with a concentration in Urban Studies. She is from Chino Hills, California and enjoys dance, reading, and art. Previously, she has worked in the insurance industry with risk assessments and also worked as a counselor in Boston Chinatown's only free afterschool program. Chelsea joined SHINE to pursue her interests and passion for urban development, especially in the realm of sustainability, and because of the opportunities for partnership and collaboration at SHINE. Her research at SHINE mainly focuses on a collaboration with Morton Salt, where she seeks to develop road salt application guidelines and solidify best management practices in DOTs in order to protect vulnerable aquatic ecosystems. She maintains SHINE's twitter and website in addition to writing for SHINE's blog and news. 

Katherine Guo

Katherine is a sophomore at MIT studying mechanical engieering and computer science, though her academic interests range from Middle Eastern art history to solid state chemistry. She is most passionate about the intersection between technology and people/businesses, especially in regards to sustainability which is why she decided to pursue research with SHINE. At SHINE, Katherine has been primarily working with Eaton, modelling various waste-stream flows in order to analyze their altered footprints, resulting from new sustainability measures. Outside of her studies, she is involved in Camp Kesem, the Sloan Business Club and both the Fair Career Fair and Ring Committee, as well as her sorority, Alpha Phi.
